Join Missouri Humanities and the Lebanon-Laclede County Library on Tuesday, June 4 at 6pm for "Magic Waters & Silver Dollars: A History of Ozarks Tourism" with author and Noel Boyd Professor of Ozarks Studies at Missouri State University in Springfield, Dr. Brooks Blevins.
During the presentation, Dr. Blevins explains how tourism has been essential to the economy of the Ozarks--taking listeners on a tour through time and across the Ozarks, illustrating the origins of regional tourism and the ways the industry has changed. From the healing water craze of the late 1800s to float fishing outfitters, from mountain getaways for affluent urbanites to massive reservoirs created by the Army Corps of Engineers, Blevins connects the industry's high points to societal changes and American trends in entertainment--and introduces audience members to colorful characters and regional oddities along the way.
This event is recommended for adults and registration is not required. If you have questions, please call the library at (417)532-2148.
