What is a seed exchange?
"A gathering of people, usually gardeners and farmers, who have come together to share seeds. The seeds can include locally saved seeds, excess bought seeds, seeds from previous harvest, and seeds from the store or your personal library." - Seed Savers Exchange
We welcome all to the gathering!
- experienced seed savers who want to connect, expand their collections, and improve their skills;
- new gardeners and seed savers who want to learn about crop diversity, regionally adapted varieties, seed politics, and the power that comes from developing local seed solutions
- Seed swaps also offer the opportunity to cultivate a network of people interested in ongoing seed projects and to collectively develop and share seed that supports a more diverse and resilient local food supply
Guidelines for swapping seeds:
- Please only bring open pollinated,
non-gmo, and/or heirloom varieties
- to make exchanges easier, please pre-portion your seeds in small penny envelopes with the following information: common name, variety, latin name, year the seeds were collected, where the seeds were grown and by whom, any extra interesting information
- if you do no have time to pre-portion seeds, please bring them in your bulk packaging and provide a sign for each with the same information: common name, variety, latin name, year the seeds were collected, where the seeds were grown and by whom, any extra interesting information
Plant cuttings, rootstock, bulbs, tubers, etc are also welcome to offer to the exchange. Please have them labeled clearly and pre-portioned.
Stay tuned for the line up of guest speakers!
