Young anglers will have opportunities to experience the fun of catching fish and learning more about the outdoors. Kids 15 and under can pick up their free fishing tags at the park store or near the special event tent near the park store during the event on Saturday. Children can fish anywhere in the park; however, a special designated fishing area will be provided for children in Zone 2 near the playground area across from the park store. Volunteers and equipment will be available to help kids near the special event tent. Educational activities such as casting, fly tying demonstrations and equipment for those that do not own any will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Other nature-related activities and community partners will be present near Shelter B.
This year, there will be monthly fly tying nights in the visitor room of the park’s hatchery. A suggested $5 donation will go to provide supplies and support Kid's Free Fishing Day. This is sponsored through the Friends of Bennett Spring and more information can be obtained by contacting them at 573-247-3082 or emailing at FriendsofBennettSpring@gmail.com. This activity will allow people to hang out, tell stories and help several good causes. Instruction on tying a basic fishing fly will be given. Everyone's first six flies are donated to The Mayfly Project, which mentors foster children through fly fishing. More information on this can be found at www.TheMayFlyProject.com.
FISHING TIMES: 6:30 A.M. - 8:15 P.M.
